Space Enhancement

Spent my summer of 2024 managing gallery operations at an up and coming fine art gallery.

After having a couple paintings selected in an art show in an unknown art space of the lobby of an apartment building, I saw potential in what 83 Gallery could be. Instead of paying the fee of having my art displayed, I offered to help hang the art other artists had dropped off. It was one, overwhelmed man running the whole circus so he gladly took my help. As we hung over 100 works of art, tightly in a way he referred to as “Salon Style” music from the 90s played and I began to feel comfortable with him as if he were my uncle teaching me things. I saw the opportunity to learn and not long I was helping run the circus. Soon, I began hosting events, including others, and built a community corner out of what once was unused storage space. We called it “The Cove”, a place where I hosted weekly events for local artists to bring their craft and create with one another, growing my love for bringing people together. I wanted more people to know of the joys of this space so I began creating content on social media as well. I drew a lot of people into the space by wearing a rabbit head a friend had left in my car. I called it, “the 83 Rabbit mascot”. A gorilla marketing tool I used at other event I attended.

Soon the owner of the space payed me less and less after promising he would. And so I learned the importance of a contract.
